Mike Hallack’s DIY Rec Rack: Can You Say Tidy?
An active family needs a place to keep their gear. Often this means cramming all the stuff into an already overfull garage. But this gets old in a hurry. Mike Hallack wanted to avoid marathon “where did I leave it?” sessions, so he decided to bring some order out of chaos for his family of five. He began by drawing up a plan. Then he went to work. And in only four hours he had a rack to store bikes, scooters, skateboards, and helmets—all in one place.

It didn’t cost him an arm and a leg, either. Mike just dug into his pile of unused wood and stock fasteners. The rest was pure sweat equity. But even if you have to buy all the materials at your local DIY shop, it will still cost a lot less than a readymade storage rack. Moreover, you can adapt it to your individual needs. One size never fits everyone, after all. And Mike? He’s happy. His garage is tidy, and everybody in the family knows right where to look when it’s time to hit the road. Want to know more? (I do!)
