It may be deep winter here in the far northern latitudes, but our opposite numbers south of the equator are basking in beautiful summer conditions. Our Southern Hemisphere Correspondent and Photographer, Marcos Netto, spent the weekend making the most of summer. He and a group of friends headed out to ride their mountain bikes along the Taquari River. This was rough riding at its best, with unpaved roads, mud, hills, and train tracks, all in steaming hot temperatures. But the rewards made up for the hardships, as you can find out for yourself by reading his full report in “The Wheat Railway—Ferrovia do Trigo” (the English translation is intermixed with the Portuguese).

 
Oinverno está forte aqui nas distantes latitudes do hemifério norte. Mas nossos pares ao sul do Equador estão se aquecendo num lindo verão. Nosso Fotógrafo e Correspondente do Hemifério Sul, Marcos Netto, passou o final de semana aproveitando o que há de melhor no verão. Ele juntamente com um grupo de ciclistas foram pedalar em montanhas no Vale do Rio Taquari. Um pedal forte no melhor estilho, passando por estradas de chão batido, lama e em trilhos de trem; tudo isso numa temperatura escaldante. Mas a recompensa pelo sacrifício valeu a pena, como vocês poderão ver neste relato em Ferrovia do Trigo.
