Two Guys on Two Pugs Up the Continent’s Spine

What do you get when you bring together a couple adventurous guys and a pair of bikes with four-inch tires? A rugged ride up the Canadian portion of the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (or GDR for short), that’s what. And no, you didn’t read wrong. I DID say four-inch tires, but that’s an exaggeration. In fact, they’re 3.7 inches wide Surly Endomorph tires, and they’re mounted on Surly Large Marge rims. Am I kidding? Nope. Check it out:

That’s Vik Banerjee’s Surly Pugsley outfitted for the 355km GDR trek with his buddy Kurt, who was similarly outfitted. The Pugs were just the ticket for the conditions the team found along the spine of the continent.

The Endomorphs soared right through mud, glided over loose stones, floated over flooded unimproved roads, and clawed up singletrack.

What a trip! Read Vik’s account of the journey on his blog, The Lazy Randonneur, where you’ll find lots more photos of this ruggedly scenic adventure. Thanks go to Vik for permission to link to his photos.
