Journeys with a Pentax K200D DSLR—Turning Inward
I’ve been enjoying my new DSLR on winter snowshoe hikes, but as much as I like to hit the trail, some days it’s just not possible. Being cooped up inside doesn’t diminish my interest in shooting photographs, though. When I bought the K200D and Pentax lenses, I wondered how they would do for interior shots. Now, after several dozen inside photos, I proclaim myself very pleased. What follows is a representative selection of hand-held photos taken under three different kinds of light—incandescent and fluorescent lighting, and natural light.
Candy-colored jewel cases
I was struck by how the bright primary colors of these jewel cases resembled the colors of hard candies. Shot with natural winter sunlight made bright by a fresh snowpack on the ground.
Shelf still life
Midday sunlight in January illuminated a collection of feathers and other items on a shelf over my desk.
March butterflies
The sun’s stronger now that it’s March, and by the time I’m done with morning coffee it’s making these prints of butterflies glow.
Curtain in dark room on a sunny day
The room is dark, but the pattern on this curtain is brightly backlit.
Cycling cap
An Italian cycling cap waits to go for a ride.
Strawberries straight from the freezer
Who doesn’t love strawberries? In winter, though, the only ones in the market are in the freezer section. These fat strawberries are thawing in the kitchen, waiting to become dessert.
Individual trifle
And here’s where the strawberries ended up—in an individual trifle of pound cake, whiskey, marmalade, whipped cream, and shaved chocolate. MMMMMM.
Oranges and grapefruit beckon
For a healthier dessert, have an orange or grapefruit. These are beautiful and sweet.
A wee dram
On the other hand, I’m in the mood for a warming shot of Laphroaig. How better to top off a dessert of trifle? Nasdrovya!
